GENERAL INFORMATION

A daily vehicle inspection is required to ensure that any potential problems and defects have been identified before the vehicle is operated on the highway. Inspections help to prevent problems that are likely to cause or contribute to the severity of an accident.

Vehicles requiring daily inspections are:

Trucks and trailers with a total gross weight of 4,500 kg.

Buses designed to carry ten or more passengers

Accessible buses that have been modified to carry people with disabilities

School vehicles and buses under contract with a school board or authority in charge of a school used to carry 6 or more children or adults with a developmental disability

Criteria for daily inspection report:

The vehicle must always be inspected before being driven

Inspection report must list all vehicle components and systems that require inspection

Inspection report must be completed and is valid for 24 hours

Inspection and reports must be carried in the vehicle

Driver is to record and report any defect to the supervisor/operator the at the time they are discovered

Supervisor/Operator must repair defect before the vehicle is dispatched again and keep record of repairs
